TOUGH LOVE: Take Care of Your Shit

Tough Love

Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead, Alan Rickman, Renee Angelil, David Bowie. All these people died of cancer in the last 2 weeks. We know this because they’re famous. Countless others have also lost their lives in the same time frame.

We don’t always know the cause of cancer. Sometimes, it’s environmental like from smoking or being in the proximity to toxins for too long. Sometimes, it’s genetic. Most of the time, you just have no fucking idea.

We all know someone who has been afflicted by cancer. Or someone who knows someone. It has touched so many lives and broken so many hearts.

So why am I reminding you about this depressing disease so often shoved in our faces?

Because I want us to remember something. Listen carefully.

We don’t know why people get cancer. Or MS. Or ALS. Or many countless diseases.  We don’t have control over our genetics. We don’t always have control over our environment. We don’t have control over so many things.

But there are things we do have control over. We do have control over the foods we put in our bodies. We do have control over the stress in our lives (most of the time). We do have control over how we handle our stress. We do have control over how we use our bodies and how often and for how long.

I’m NOT saying that any of this will save you should  you find yourself afflicted by one of these diseases. But it won’t hurt. Worst case scenario: You’re healthier. What have you got to lose?

There are so many factors we can’t control in our health that it is imperative to do your best to control the ones you can. Prevention is key. Know your genetics. Do your research. Read the labels. Take your health into your own hands. Don’t take my word for it. Or someone else’s.

Eat right. Exercise. Learn about whole foods. Pay attention.

I’m going to say this again, because it’s important;

Listen to your body. Pay attention to how it feels, what it needs, how stress, food and exercise effect it. If you don’t listen to it, nobody else will.

Our physical and mental health are our top commodities. Without them, we can’t take care of our families, we can’t work, we can’t LIVE.

They are just way too important to ignore.

So, take care of your shit. You might just be saving your own life.

xx, laura
