I don’t know about you guys but before I had my daughter I was super organized. And now…… chaos.
Part of adrenal fatigue is brain fog and since this Winter, my brain has not been clear, to say the least. I feel like I am so scattered, disorganized and my productivity has suffered as well. I have too much on my plate and I feel like I am not doing anything well right now.
Enter Time Blocking.
I heard about Time Blocking recently from another blogger who used the concept and decided to give it a try.
Holy crap. This shit works.
Time Blocking means literally scheduling every minute of your day. I know this sounds awful but what this does is reduce multi-tasking and helps you focus. Multi-tasking has been shown to actually make you less productive and can even damage your brain! Gross!
The original concept uses a day planner and a 12 hour schedule. You draw out blocks of time for specific activities and when that time is up, you move on. It allows you to block out all other distractions and really focus on one thing and doing it well.
Enter Google Calendar.
Now, I am a usually very comfortable going digital. But one thing I have not transferred that over to is my day planner. I still like to write things down and use pen and paper to get organized. But my way hadn’t been working for some time and I was ready to try something new.
Google Calendar allows you have have multiple calendars on one account making your To Do List super easy to follow. You can do it on a per project basis, or have a calendar for family, work and social life. It helps you compartmentalize you lifestyle and stay on top of everything. Plus, it’s colour-coded. Swoon. I love a little colour-coding action. I use different colours for different clients, projects or types of tasks.
Google Calendar also has an app right on your phone too that syncs with all of your accounts and sends you little reminders when your time is up or when you have an appointment coming up. It has helped me really stay on top of things and get waaay more stuff done during the day.
